Antonio Conte has revealed what he expects from Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League clash with Napoli. The Italian has been impressed with the performances of both players in recent weeks and believes they have the potential to be key players for Spurs in the future. Conte said: “I think Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour are two very good players. They have different characteristics but they both have the quality to play at the highest level. “I expect them to continue to work hard and improve their game. They have the potential to be very good players for Tottenham.”

McTominay’s role in Conte’s team

McTominay has been a regular starter for Tottenham since Conte took charge in November 2021. The Scotland international has impressed with his energy, tackling ability and passing range. Conte said: “Scott McTominay is a very important player for us. He is a box-to-box midfielder who can do everything. He can defend, he can attack, he can pass the ball. “I am very happy with his performances and I expect him to continue to improve. He has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.”

Gilmour has made a number of appearances for Tottenham this season, impressing with his composure on the ball and ability to dictate the tempo of the game. Conte said: “Billy Gilmour is a very talented player. Tottenham’s Champions League clash with Napoli

Tottenham will face Napoli in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday, February 14. The first leg will be played at the San Paolo Stadium in Naples, with the second leg to be played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on March 8. Conte said: “Napoli is a very good team. They are very well-organized and they have some very good players. “We will need to be at our best to beat them. We will need to play with intensity and passion, and we will need to take our chances. “I believe we have a good chance of winning this tie. We have a good team and we are playing with a lot of confidence. “We will be ready for the challenge.”
