Trump Shot at Rally
Spectator Killed in Pennsylvania
Secret Service Kills Suspect
Former President Donald Trump was shot in the right ear during a campaign rally on Saturday, sparking panic and streaking the Republican presidential hopeful.
A spectator was also killed at the rally in Pennsylvania, the Secret Service said. Trump said in a post online that he had "minor injuries" and was "doing fine."
The attendee who died was Corey Comperatore, Pennsylvania's governor said. The suspected shooter, who was killed, was identified by the FBI as Raymond K. Washnik.
Secret Service agents shot dead Washnik as Trump, who has minor injuries, was hauled off stage in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
The shooting occurred at around 11:30 a.m. ET, as Trump was delivering a speech to supporters. A witness told NBC News that they heard a loud noise and then saw Trump being rushed off stage.
The Secret Service said in a statement that "the subject was immediately engaged by Secret Service agents and neutralized." No other injuries were reported.
The shooting is under investigation by the FBI and the Secret Service.
The incident is a reminder of the dangers that political figures face every day. In recent years, there have been several high-profile shootings of politicians, including the 2011 shooting of then-Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and the 2016 shooting of then-U.S. Representative Steve Scalise.
The shooting of Trump is a reminder that violence is never the answer and that we must all work together to create a more civil and respectful society.
