Roland-Garros 2023: Jannik Sinner Cruises Through First Round
Sinner Defeats Muller in Straight Sets
Jannik Sinner, the 12th seed, made a strong start in the 2023 French Open on Monday, defeating qualifier Alexandre Muller in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2.
Dominant Performance from Sinner
Sinner dominated the match from the outset, breaking Muller's serve twice in the first set and once in the second. The young Italian was particularly impressive on his forehand, hitting 15 winners off that wing. Muller fought back in the second set, but Sinner was too strong and closed it out in 75 minutes.
Sinner's Impressive Season Continues
Sinner's victory over Muller extends his record to 29-8 this season. The 21-year-old has won two titles in 2023, including the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam. He is currently ranked 12th in the world, and his performance at Roland-Garros will only help his ranking improve.
Sinner Looks Ahead to Second Round
Sinner will face either Benoit Paire or Thiago Monteiro in the second round of Roland-Garros. He will be the heavy favorite against either opponent and will be looking to continue his strong form. A deep run in Paris would be a major boost for Sinner's career, and he will be confident of making a statement in the second Grand Slam of the year.
